If your pitching wedge flies a hundred and ten yards and your sand wedge flies seventy, you have a hole in the middle.
There are two fixes. One is to add a gap wedge. The other is to bend the pitching wedge a degree stronger and the sand wedge a degree weaker. Either works. Which is better depends on how many wedges you want to carry.
Rule of thumb
If the gap is larger than fifteen yards, add a wedge. If it is smaller, bend one.
